Michelle Schwartzmier shares her daughter’s story of addiction.

Michelle Schwartzmier of Pittsburgh presented an assembly to CAJSHS students on October 27 to warn students that drug addiction is a problem for everyone in the community.

Mrs. Schwartzmier shared the story of her daughter, Casey, who passed away in January at the age of 20 from an accidental heroin overdose after a long battle with addiction. Mrs. Schwartzmier travels around the state and beyond to share Casey’s message with students, parents, and community leaders. She reminds young people of the dangers of addiction to themselves and their families, and asks everyone to think twice before judging an addict.

She will also speak to the public at a presentation Nov. 2 at the high school, where she will be joined by representatives from the Community Guidance Center and Clearfield Borough Police. The presentation begins at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
