This month’s student in the spotlight is a senior, Katrina Spencer. For school, she participates in track, cross country, Key Club, Helping Hands Club, Drama Club, student council, and is treasurer of the senior class.  Outside of school, she has been dancing since she was four years old, taken some voice lessons, and joined Sam Morgan’s Parasi speed program, which trains athletes to become stronger.

With all these activities, Katrina says she has little free time but when she does she focuses on reconnecting with friends. How does she do it? She explains, “I know that in order to get to where I want to be with my career, I need to keep  up and push myself an extra hour late at night, or one hour earlier in the morning to get things done. Time management is key and every little minute counts.” By doing all this she is establishing valuable skills to take with her in the future, such as a good work ethic. She believes anything is possible.

Katrina has excellent advice on time management. For example, “Don’t put things that need to get done off for later because chances are you will get to the time you say you will, and not feel like it anymore. If you know you have even just 10-20 minutes, just drop the hammer and tell yourself that if you do it now, it will be done later. A calendar and to-do list can really help.”

Her plan after high school is to go to either Point Park University in Pittsburgh or Pace in New York and double major in dance and acting. She would like to be on Broadway or in a movie. Eventually she hopes to own her own dance studio and travel the world.
