At Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School we have a large number of sports and students in them. The newest addition to that roster is the Bocce Ball team. What is Bocce Ball? It is a sport in which a standard ball is thrown onto a court and then each team has too roll their set of four balls onto the court and see who can get the closest to the standard ball. The team that does get closest gets a point and the team that scores 12 points wins.

The coaches, Dr. Spaid and Mrs. Plyler, were kind enough to answer questions surrounding the team. According to Dr. Spaid, “The season runs from the middle of January until the first week of March.” During the first week of March there was a tournament between Clearfield, West Branch, and Curwensville. While every team competing did a great job in terms of score, our very own Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School took home the championship. Pratan Steiner, one of the two captains of the team, states, “This was a great experience that I hope they continue in the following years.”

Dr. Spaid believes that students gain teamwork skills and help others learn to appreciate the skill sets that each member brings to the team. Every student can participate in the game. Everyone who participates takes something or learns something from it.
