Riverdale opens season 3 with a cliffhanger

Madison Kipp, Staff writer

The recent third-season opening episode of Riverdale, the series found on the CW Network, was truly a cliff hanger.

At the start of the episode, watchers witnessed Archie Andrews being handcuffed and sent away to a detention center. But, a court hearing is anxiously put forward. As friends and family close to Archie Andrews wait for the plea, Archie stands up and decides he is guilty, though he was not guilty. He then is sent to a detention center while everyone is completely shocked and saddened.

Archie meets a guy named Mad Dog at the detention center, which then makes him learn a lesson to act like a “wild animal” which means if you act tough, he will be there no matter if he is innocent or guilty. The wardens have a wrestling ring that they use for fighting at the detention center. Archie is winning every fight, which makes him more likely to stay at the detention center. Slowly, he becomes sick of this lifestyle, which makes him want to escape.

Meanwhile, outside of the detention center, Veronica, Jughead, and Betty find out that Betty’s family is dark. As Betty witnesses all of her family outside, she sees her mother and sister toss Betty’s two nieces into the fire. Betty drops onto the porch and begins to have a seizure.

This episode was truly dark and had an eerie tone to it. If you’ve never watched Riverdale, it would be a show you would not regret starting. My personal opinion on the opening episode is that I wish there was more to the end than the cliffhanger that was there. I honestly loved this episode and I recommend it to everyone.
