Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

Macy Eamigh, Staff Writer

Directed by Joachim Rønning and written by Linda Woolverton, “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” is a rated PG fantasy adventure film produced by Walt Disney Pictures. It was released on Oct. 18 of this year as a sequel to the 2014 film, “Maleficent”.

The movie “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” further explores the relationship between Maleficent and Aurora a few years after the end of the first movie. While gathered to celebrate Aurora’s upcoming wedding, Maleficent notices something off with Queen Ingrid, Aurora’s future mother-in-law. Maleficent becomes determined to stop her from any evil plans she has and creates a group to help defeat the queen and her army before anything can happen.

There are many actors from the first movie that return to play as their original characters. Angelina Jolie returns to continue her role as the iconic villain, Maleficent. Also returning for the sequel is Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville. There are also many new cast members including Harris Dickinson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein, and Michelle Pfeiffer. With the reappearance of these actors and new cast members, the film is much more experienced and interesting. Their portrayals of the characters help viewers feel more connected and engaged in the story.

From the night forests to the pearl gowns, “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” was presented with very stunning visuals, costumes, and cinematography. A lot of time was clearly put into the production of this movie, but it was worth it. The overall visual is creative and imaginative, making the film seem that much more professional and realistic.

I would highly recommend this movie to anyone that has watched the previous movie to this sequel however, the amazing character portrayals and visuals shown are worth taking time to see.
