A senior night, faculty game, and Dr. Spaid, guidance counselor and Bocce coach, send-off all in one game. On February 4, 2021, Bocce held its annual senior night expect this time things were a bit different. Seniors Rylee Biancuzzo, Landon Libreatori, Katelyn Hetrick, Ethan Yarger, Catherine Turner, Lauren Malloy, and Shaylee Sharp were able to experience their senior night even if it was different from a usually senior night.

Due to COVID-19, having any kind of Bocce season was difficult as Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School was the only school in the region to have a Bocce team this year.

Dr. Spaid informs, “We were able to make two games for this season, one with the team versus the Clearfield wrestlers, and one with the team versus the Clearfield faculty. Mr. Struble, Clearfield’s superintendent, was the one to come up with the faculty idea.”

Bocce had a very good turn out with 14 faculty members joining in on the game and many of the parents of seniors were able to attend the game, as well. Administrators, faculty and staff who participated included Mr. Maney, Ms. Plyler, Ms. Huff, Mr. Duttry, Superintendent Mr. Struble, Mr. Bowman, Assistant Principal Mr. Scaife, Principal Mrs. Prestash, Mr. Stibitz, Mr. Bender, Mrs. McGrainer, Mr. Gearheart, Assistant Principal Mr. Brickley, Ms. Beichner, and Ms. Appleton.

Also that night, the Bocce Team bid farewell to Dr. Spaid, who is retiring from the school district at the end of this school year. Dr. Spaid is a founder of the Bocce Team and has been a coordinator and coach for the past four years.

Dr. Spaid reminds, “If you are thinking of joining next year, please stop in Ms. Hoover’s room and speak with her about it. We accept kids from grades 9-12.”
