The school year is entering its final months, which means spring sports are right around the corner. One of the sports that takes place in the spring is Track and Field. Track and Field consists of running, jumping , and throwing events, so multiple coaching staff members are needed to lead a team. The head coach of this team is Mr. Caragein, who has been coaching track for multiple seasons. I have taken the opportunity to ask him a few questions concerning this upcoming season.

Q: When does track season start?

Coach Caragein: First day of track practice is Monday, March 6th.

Q: What do you specifically coach in track?

Coach Caragein: I coach the short sprinting events like the 100m and 200m dash. I also coach Pole Vault.

Q: Who are the others on the coaching staff and what do they specialize in?

Coach Caragein: I have five other coaches working with me on the Varsity level. I have Coach Winters who coaches our distances runners, Coach Kline who coaches hurdles, Coach Putt who coaches Jumping, Coach Shimko coaches throwing, and Coach Glunt who helps with jumping.

Q: What have you been doing to prepare for the upcoming season?

Coach Caragein: Coach Yingling, our Junior High Coach, has been holding off-season work outs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They have been working on conditioning and strength building.

Q: Has there been any major changes from past seasons?

Coach Caragein: No, this year will be the same as last year. Next year will be the big change. We will be joining the LHAC [Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference].

Q: What is one thing you would like to tell all students about track and field?

Coach Caragein: Track and Field is more than just running. There are other events student can participate in. We have jumping and throwing events too.

Q: What are your predictions for how the team will do this season?

Coach Caragein: My goal is for the student-athletes to keep breaking their own personal records in their event. Winning as a team will come when everyone is performing at their best.
