Recently senior Luke McGonigal won the state championship for wrestling. Luke was kind enough to answer a few questions about what motivates him and what he believes helped him achieve his state championship win.
Q. Do you participate in any clubs in the school?
Luke: “Yes, student council, vice president of the senior class, National Honor Society, and Spanish Honor Society.”
Q. How long have you been wrestling?
Luke: “14 years.”
Q. What do you attribute your state championship win to?
Luke: “All the hard work and dedication I have put into this sport. I couldn’t have done it without my coaches, community, and most importantly my family.”
Q. How do you manage time between sports and academics?
Luke: “Academics have always come first. I would get all my school work done first and then spend the rest of my time training.”
Q. Taking into account that you’re a senior, what are your plans after high school?
Luke: “I plan to attend Lock Haven University majoring in Medical Science. I will be wrestling for the Bald Eagles pursing my dreams to become a national champion.”
Q. Do you have a particular quote that resonates with you?
Luke: “Luke 1:37 – ‘For with God, nothing shall be impossible’. ”
Q. Who has been your biggest inspiration and why?
Luke: “My family. They motivate and push me to be the best I can be. Not just in sports but in life.”
Q. Is there anything else you would like to tell students about yourself?
Luke: “Being a state champ has always been a goal of mine. Hard work truly does pay off.”
