The Clearfield Area Junior/Senior High Schools Juniors’ and Seniors were presented with the opportunity to work the polls on election day this year, November 8, 2022.

Students had to have the following qualifications: at least 17 years of age, must be a US citizen, must reside in Clearfield County, must be enrolled in a secondary education institution, and must have approval from the school and a guardian.

Students could either work a full day or a half day. Two students were assigned to each polling station. Students are generally placed at the precinct where their parents vote, but if that place is full, they could be placed elsewhere. New student workers are placed first and then others that have worked before are placed next. No political attire was to be worn at the voting polls on Election Day.

Anna Twigg, a junior at CAJSHS, worked at a polling location. Anna was placed at the Expo building at the Clearfield fair grounds, and she worked a full day. She expressed that working at these polls was a good way to earn money while also helping the community. For instance, when I asked why she worked at the polls, she stated, “I wanted to work the polls because I thought it would be a good job experience and a good way to help my town.” This was a good experience for students to get involved and get involved within the community.
