Voting is one of the most important rights that an American citizen has. It is a way to express your thoughts and opinions that are crucial to better our country. Elections provide feedback for government and are important to society. Therefore, Clearfield always holds a mock election every November.

These elections are usually led by the Social Studies department here at Clearfield. Mr. Shinko, Mr. Pallo, Mr. Gearhart, or Mr. Billotte run the mock election annually. This year there was a Microsoft Forms ballot that students could use to mark their decision. Students are brought by social studies to vote in the natatorium. Numerous chairs and desks with folders used as blinders are used to simulate a real election.

One of the biggest midterm elections this country has ever seen was taking place during this election year. The vote for Governor and the US Senate brought a lot of controversy as many states had very close election results. Students had the option to vote for the Governor of PA, the PA State Senate, and another congress person.

Though these votes are disregarded, and don’t affect the actual election, this process creates a great opportunity for students in Grades 7-12 to express their vote and participate in civil engagement.
