“Do you want to build a snowman? Come on, let’s go and play!” Do you know this popular song from the movie Frozen? Well, when winter comes around, many people want to build a snowman. However, the building process can be surprisingly challenging. The following information explains the materials you may need and the steps you should take to construct the best snowman!

Materials

  • Some materials may vary based on your creative instincts. For example, you could use a candy cane for the nose rather than a carrot, or rocks could be utilized instead of buttons.
  • Snow!
  • A carrot
  • A hat
  • Buttons
  • A scarf
  • Two twigs

Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Wait until it snows!
  • Once it does, make sure that it is the right kind of snow. You want the snow to be thick so that it will stick together easily.
  • Location is key! Pick the best spot for your snowman.
    1. TIP: Find a flat surface that is visible to those driving by. If possible, you can try to find a shady area as well.
  • Begin building by assembling a small snowball. You can roll this snowball in the snow to make it larger. This will be the base of your snowman.
    1. TIP: Roll the snowball one way and then back the other way. This will create a better sphere. Rolling the ball only forwards or only backwards would make an oval shaped snowball.
  • Repeat the last step two more times. However, roll the snowballs less and less. You will be creating the torso and the head.
    1. The base should be the largest, the torso should be slightly smaller, and the head should be the smallest.
  • After you have all three parts built, you must stack them on one another. The torso goes on top of the base and the head should be on top of the torso.
  • This is when the magic happens. It is time to dress the snowman! The following directions will be describing how to dress a traditional snowman, but you can do whatever.
    1. Examples: You could make the snowman beach-themed, a specific character from a movie, or a football player.
  • Next, take the buttons and put them down the torso as if the snowman were wearing a shirt. Additionally, use the buttons as eyes and a mouth as well.
  • Put the carrot on the snowman as a nose.
  • Put the hat on the top of the snowman’s head.
  • Wrap the scarf around the neck of the snowman.
  • Finally, use the two twigs as arms, and then you are done! Give the snowman a name and take a picture!
