It’s the new year, so everyone is coming up with resolutions to improve the quality of their lives. One very good resolution for students like you and me, or just anyone wanting to better their brain, is reading more. Whether it is to read one book or 100, reading is a great thing to do because it strengthens vocabulary and comprehension while providing entertainment. However, one of the most challenging parts of the reading process is finding a book that will hook you in and make you forget that you are even reading. I’ve taken it upon myself to help out with this process by picking out a book to read and review, and I definitely made the right choice. I read Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, and it is the perfect book to start off your year of reading.

Six of Crows follows the story of Kaz Brekker and his crew of outcasts and thieves as they are given the chance to complete a deadly heist to keep hidden a secret that could destroy the world. The likeable characters will have you rooting for them the entire time, and the action-packed plot will constantly leave you on the edge of your seat. It is a fantasy novel set mostly in the city of Ketterdam, and the complex world building will make you feel like you are really there yourself. There are elements of magic and the supernatural, but it stays true to an ordinary prison-break type of situation. Because of the violence and action, it is a young adult book, specifically for readers 13 and up. If action and fantasy is not normally your forte, than the romance and mystery throughout the plot will surely keep you hooked as well. So, if you are looking for a book to read, I completely recommend Six of Crows to anyone hoping to get hooked into a new novel.
