Grubbin’ With Grace: Romantic Foods

Grace Natoli

‘Tis the season of love. Many people love food, so what better to write about than the most romantic foods? I am going to introduce the three most romantic foods according to Google in order from most to least romantic, and the amount of searches each food has during the month of February.

In the #1 spot is Chocolate Covered Strawberries. Nothing is more intimate than some nice, warm melted chocolate and some sweet strawberries. With 360,000 searches, it surpasses most foods even during other seasons.

Coming in at #2 is Caviar. Although it is a known delicacy, it is not often eaten alone. The strong taste is best suited for small amounts at a time. It is most often accompanied with a chilled champagne or a sparkling cider and on top of blini, which is similar to a pancake but Russian.  With 301,000 searches, it is still high on the list, but it doesn’t rival the infamous chocolate covered strawberries.

Finally resting in the #3 spot is Truffles. Truffles are a fungus that are found underground and can go for $4,000/lb. The unique taste makes it a high value item and for some odd reason sounds very good to people on dates. Like caviar, it is not a food to be eaten by itself, but to be paired with other foods in a dish. With 201,000 searches during the month of love, it is a big jump from our top two competitors.

I was surprised that Truffles and caviar were so high up on the list, I thought it would’ve been spaghetti, or something more common. I, however, am not surprised about the Chocolate Covered Strawberries holding the number one spot. Not only are they fairly easy to make but are also delicious and much worth the money spent buying them or the time spent making them.
