End of the Bocce Season

Arika Jones, Staff Writer

The Bocce district competition was a very exciting event. It was hosted on our home court and Clearfield was able to defeat both Bellefonte and Bald Eagle in order to advance to the regional competition at Penn State. At regionals the team won their first game and started preparing for their second. Unfortunately, they lost the second game in a one-point, heartbreaking match to Saint Mary’s, who went on to win first place at regionals. If they would have won, they would have sealed a place at the state competition in Hershey, but sadly their season came to an end. The team did greatly appreciate students and staff lining the halls to send them off before this huge match!

Coach Mrs. Komonczi believes their toughest competitor this season was Bald Eagle. They played them once during the regular season before districts and lost, even though they won the match with an overall score of 2-1. She stated, “This being my first year coaching, the season was so much more enjoyable than I could have ever imagined!”

Bocce can be an intense sport because every throw can change the game in an instant. Each player adds their own skills that make the team successful as a whole. The team had an amazing season, and they are all looking forward to next year. Any students currently in grades eight through eleven that are interested in joining can stop by Mrs. Komonczi’s room number 210 to sign up and/or ask questions. She would love to get a bigger team for next season.
