For the past four months Clearfield High School senior Braedon Firanski has been training to become the best discus thrower in the State. Braedon after picking up a discus for the first time just four months ago, has achieved some extremely impressive numbers as a first-year thrower in Discus. Initially starting off with just learning the movement in February, he has worked his way up to a current all-time PR of a 150’ foot discus throw, now throwing the furthest distance on the team. After just a few meets Braedon was invited to this year’s 46th annual Igloo Invitational where he placed first overall in Discus with a 108-foot throw. His efforts didn’t stop there however, as Braedon continued to train in the weight room and ended up winning the Bald Eagle invitational and even Mountain League. Because of his hard work, he ended up winning the Lock Haven invitational for Discus and was recruited by the Lock Haven throwing coach to come throw for them this fall at the Division II level. Braedon’s goals this year include making it to States, placing at States, and learning how to become the best thrower and athlete that he can be along the way. Braedon believes that winning is a mindset and anything is possible to achieve if you really want it bad enough.
