“It just walked across and started shaking, slowly moving across. No hair at all on it. Its back legs were shriveled up. I mean, I honestly think it’s a chupacabra,” (News, 2011). This is the first of my series that I will be covering for cryptids.
The first stories of the chupacabra originated in Mexico around the 1990s, the name chupacabra means “goat-sucker” (Lewis, 2023). Stories would tell that the chupacabra would come out at night and feast on livestock. The chupacabra is about 4-5 ft tall with large spikes on its back, glowing red eyes, and giant fangs that it hunts its prey with, this is what I believe a chupacabra to be.
It has many different depictions though. Some people say it’s only the size of an average dog, or that it walks on all fours, or that it even has fur or lizard-like skin.
Some folks even say that the chupacabra are escaped pets of Aliens that have visited our planet.
The reason why the chupacabra has been able to get so well known as it has, is from the television and internet it was able to spread word fast. There have been many sightings of dead “chupacabra” but scientists believe them to be coyotes that have mange, mange is when an animal loses its hair and the skin turns blueish (LLC, 2012).
It’s also astonishing to see how different areas treat the chupacabra, as some see it has a media sensation getting turned into a toy or put on a shirt. While other areas see it as this fierce creature that will feast on all your livestock or maybe even you.
But whether they are real or fake it comes down to you as a person to believe what you want too. You can believe all the stories of the horrific creature that so many fear, or you can be a non-believer using science to give a logical answer.
