On November 16, 2023, one hundred or more students were in town at numerous different businesses painting windows. The students were in groups of two to up to 5. Each group had the choice of what they wanted to paint, so the personalities of the groups really showed.
The students were assigned the buildings they painted such as the Ritz, Taffy’s, Burns and Burns, Grice’s gun shop and Jims. The art consisted of Pop art, silhouette paintings, abstract painting, action painting, and portrait painting.
It was a cold Thursday morning, so the students had to bundle up. They were wearing hoodies, beanies, snow jackets, boots, etc. After the students were done painting, they had a choice of where to go to eat. A Student favorite was the Main Won buffet.
You might think that seven hours would be plenty enough time to finish a painting, but in reality, it is barely enough time. While painting, many students had problems that slowed down their paintings. Problems such as stencils breaking, brushes painting, running out of supplies, and more were all problems that occurred.
Two CHS teachers, Ms. Adams and Ms. Barnett, were the only help that were available that day. They had been running around all day trying to make the paintings a success. After the students had finished their own paintings, they would go over to other groups and help them finish.
After all the students had finished, they packed all the boxes of supplies onto the vans. The next day, the students had to unpack their boxes at the high school. If you want to see some of the windows that got painted, then go downtown and look at all the local businesses. Next year maybe you can participate in the window painting.
