Fortnite was one of, if not the, most popular game from 2017-2020, but recently Epic Games, the developers of Fortnite made so many changes to the map and the game in general, so much that it quickly died off and became known as one of the most toxic games to ever be made. In 2023, Epic realized they needed to make a change. Epic Games switched back to the “OG” Fortnite map and gameplay.
This change brought back many players from around the world. According to the Official Fortnite Account on X (Twitter), “The launch of Fortnite OG, a special season which brings back the game’s original Chapter 1 map, drew an incredible 44.7 million players on Saturday, Nov. 4, who between them racked up 102 million hours of play.” Many people came back to enjoy the experience and nostalgia from the game they once enjoyed back in 2018. Halfway through the month Epic Games announced that OG Fortnite’s last day would be on December 2nd, 2023. On December 2nd, there were so many players on Fortnite that most people had to wait hours just to get in a game. When the day ended, Epic games made an announcement that OG Fortnite exceeded their expectations, and that they are bringing it back as a game mode in 2024.
All in all, I really liked the switch to the OG version of the game. It brought back many memories and allowed me to enjoy the game that I once loved one more time, and I think a lot of people are excited for its return in 2024.
