This month’s athlete feature is one of our very own bocce ball players, Cody Taylor.
I asked Cody a series of questions regarding his career in bocce ball. Cody said, he decided to play bocce ball because when he was, “Going into high school I was unsure of what sports I wanted to play, as I no longer wanted to play football or baseball. However, I still wanted to find an extracurricular to take part in during the school year. In my sophomore year I decided to join the unified bocce team.”
Before we get to the next question, I feel that it may be needed to explain what bocce ball is. In Cody’s words, “Bocce ball is a game where you have to throw a bocce ball towards a ball target. The person or team who is closest to the ball ultimately wins.”
The next question I asked Cody was what he has learned from bocce ball. Cody’s response was, “Although bocce is nothing like any other sport I’ve played before, it has challenged me in many ways. For example, strategy and communication are two skills I’ve used in bocce more than any other sport.”
Lastly, with Cody being a senior, I asked if he would recommend younger students to join bocce ball. Cody replied with, “Ultimately, I have greatly enjoyed my time playing bocce ball, and I would strongly encourage others to pursue it as well.”
Though the 2024 season has ended, the team made it to the District Championships again this year.
