Art classes here at the high school seem to be a hit. Senior Lucy Billotte would definitely agree. She tends to find herself in art classes very often at the high school and never has anything bad to say about them. I asked Lucy Billotte some questions about her art and the art classes she participates in.
Q: What current art class are you taking?
A: “I am currently taking Drawing and Painting.”
Q: What is your favorite part about art class?
A: “I love how the teacher gives creative control while also still monitoring us. For example, she lets us choose what we want to draw but makes sure she explains how to do it very thoroughly. This makes me excited to finish my drawings. It is also very soothing and relaxing.”
Q: How many art classes have you had in high school?
A: “I have had five art classes in high school.”
Q: What is your favorite piece of art that you have ever made?
A: “My favorite piece of art that I have ever made is what I am currently working on. It is a pencil drawing of my brother and I from when we were younger. It is not finished yet, but I am eager to see the final project.”
Q: Are you doing anything art-related after high school?
A: “I will probably continue doing little projects or take an art class in college; however, I am not doing any careers or much with art.”
Q: Is there anything specifically that inspires your artwork? If so, what?
A: “I am a perfectionist, so I always try to do my best with my art. I do my best when I am looking at a reference picture and free hand. I also find that I do better when I pick something to draw that is more meaningful to me than a random picture online.”
Q: Explain what it is like on a typical day in art class.
A: “Typically, we just keep working on our project. It is technically a free period, and we can do whatever we choose. However, there will be times when she does a demo and shows us what we are going to do next.”
Q: What made you decide to want to take several art classes through high school?
A: “I took one early in high school and instantly enjoyed it. It is fun and helps bring out my creativity. At times it can get frustrating, but the end product is always worth it. I love the challenge.”
Q: Would you rather make in-depth art projects or quick, simple ones?
A: “I would rather make in-depth art projects that take multiple weeks because the outcome is always cooler. Sometimes the quick, simple projects are useless and get thrown away after.”
