As everyone knows prom is just around the corner. Do you ever think why prom is so important? Now comparatively prom isn’t important after high school, but there is so much mainstream media surrounding prom. People have seen and grown up with watching prom movies, shows, and overall media surrounding prom. It is only natural to grow up wanting to go to prom and wanting to experience the dream night that has been shown to you your whole life. Prom has been said to be formed in the 20th century; it had originally been founded by college students, though high school students picked it up not too much later.
It was founded by students to give themselves a shared meaningful celebration at the end of high school. In the 1940s and 1950s prom had really started getting popular. The rise of prom’s popularity is attributed to the growth in America’s youth participating in school activities. At this time prom had been accessible to mostly all American students. With prom becoming a universal high school experience, it had become such an important event.
Many highschoolers believe it is the climax of their high school years. It was an event made for students by students. Some believe that it prepares them for the social events in adulthood, and others see it as their first real look at adulthood. Prom Queens and Kings were originally, and even now in some sorts, are somewhat of just a popularity contest. Some do think and believe that the Prom Kings and Queens will be the most successful after high school, but it doesn’t always turn out like that.
To conclude, prom is special. It is a way to bond with your classmates before graduation and going separate ways after school. Maybe there is a slight over exaggeration on how important it is, but there will be memories that you will never forget!
