This month’s athlete of the month is a standout dual sport athlete for Varsity football and wrestling. The athlete I am speaking of is Nicholas Robert Flood. He has proven to be a crucial member of his teams as a junior and has a bright future ahead.
First, Nick was asked some questions about his personal career with football and a little bit about wrestling. Nick has been playing football since he was six but has only started wrestling recently with this current season bing his second year. On the field he sports the number 50 while playing left guard for the offensive line. A few awards that he has accumulated over the years are two District Nine gold medals for football and one District Nine gold medal for wrestling. His favorite memory from football is getting to pancake kids.
When asked about the team it has been an extraordinary year for them. They finished their season earlier this month with a record of 12-1. A few notable accomplishments for the team was that they were District Nine and Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference champions this year. The team ended their season after competing in the state quarter finals. After such an incredible football season the upcoming wrestling season is looking bright.
When asked about wrestling, Nick said, “It’s tough but worth it.” The main reason he participates in wrestling is to become a better football player since that is his main sport. A goal he has set for this season is to get a pin. I believe that after seeing such a phenomenal football season that our wrestling team will do just as well due to the fact so many football players wrestle.
Overall, being an athlete has helped Nick outside of school by keeping him in shape, and I am sure that it will help him with any personal goals in the future. I am very excited to see how he will do this wrestling season when the matches start this December with the first match having already happened on the tenth.
