Athlete of the Month
This month the Stampede would like to recognize Gabriella Henry as our athlete of the month. Gabby is known for being a very well-acknowledged student athlete. In this article, I asked her a few questions about the start of her volleyball career, as well as her cheerleading, and what the future holds for her.
Q: When did you start playing volleyball?
A: ” I remember being passed a paper in 5th grade that advertised elementary volleyball practices being held at the Clearfield YMCA. I had always been interested in the sport and wanted to try it, so I found this my perfect opportunity.”
Q: What was your favorite moment of the season?
A: “My favorite moment of this season was sweeping Bradford in our semifinal playoff game.”
Q: Who is your biggest inspiration?
A: “My biggest inspiration is my mother, because she has put up with so much of my shenanigans when it comes to sports and everyday life yet still manages to keep a smile on her face and positive attitude 24/7. ”
Q: What would you say is your biggest achievement from all the seasons you have played?
A: “I think my biggest achievement throughout all of the seasons I have played is managing to continue playing my hardest despite the many injuries I have suffered while playing.”
Q: What would you say to your underclassmen teammates?
A: “You must always support your teammates and uplift them as much as you possibly can, because no team benefits from a negative mindset.”
Q: Are you going to continue to pursue this sport?
A: “I still play in recreational leagues at the Bigler YMCA, but I do not plan on playing at a collegiate level.”
Q: What was it like being captain on both of your teams?
A: “It was an honor to be able to lead both my teammates for Varsity volleyball and varsity cheerleading. It was my wish to ensure that both teams felt confident in themselves and comfortable enough to come to me with anything they may have needed, and I felt that was most definitely the case. ”
Gabby has shown the kind of athlete she is and anyone that knows her knows she has cemented her legacy for the sports she has participated in. We would like to wish her the best of luck at her future endeavors!
