With all of the musically talented students here at CAJSHS, students are willing to travel to other schools and areas to further their musical career and expand their knowledge. District Jazz is a festival and competition that students for CAJSHS attend every year. To qualify for District Jazz students must submit a video audition to PEMA or Pennsylvania Music Educators Association.  If they are chosen, they attend District Jazz in one of the many schools that participate. This year, District Jazz was held February 15-17 at Bald Eagle Area High School. The students that attended this year were Katlyne Fye, Joanna Switala, Mason Yocum, Jonathan McGee, Remington Shugarts, and Austin Fontenoy.

Austin Fontenoy, a junior and one of the drum majors for the band, reflects on his experience at District Jazz by stating, “It was an amazing experience to be around such great musicians.” Mr. Mandell adds on this statement saying, “The PMEA District 4 Jazz Festival incorporates approximately 60 students in three separate jazz bands. Guest conductors were Dr. Marko Marcinko and Dr. Eric Bush, who are both from Penn State University.” Distirct Jazz may be over for this year, but in 2019 we will have more incredibly talented students attending.
