Do you know sign language? If the answers is yes then you’re in luck because the movie A Quiet Place, is almost exclusively in sign language. If you don’t then it’s a good thing it has subtitles. Why it is in sign language will make sense pretty quickly. The movie was written and directed by lead actor John Krasinski; his debut as a director. The lead actors in this film are John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe.

The film follows the Abbott family living their lives as the last few people on earth. After an invasion by some group of aliens or monsters (it never specifies what really happened). After 67 days the family knows that the creatures are blind and respond to noise only. If the family makes even the smallest sound the aliens will come for them. Luckily for them, before the invasion they had a child who was deaf (Millicent Simmonds) so the family knows how to communicate in sign language.

The whole movie is tense. It being an almost silent movie except for the background noises, makes a tense atmosphere for the viewers. Personally, I thought the movie was great. It had an idea that hadn’t been used in a movie before and an interesting premise. Personally I liked this movie because it didn’t go to any great lengths to explain what had happened. It never comes out and says what the characters names are but you still are able to connect with the family.  For his directorial debut, John Krasinski knocked it out of the park for his first film.
