“What’s So Cool about Manufacturing?” Student Take the Challenge

Chuck Gardner, Staff Writer

Back in March, the 7th and 8th grade Enrichment students participated in a video challenge about manufacturing, and what is so cool about it. The students’ challenge was to make a video about PPG (Pennsylvania Grain Processing) known by many in Clearfield County as the Ethanol Plant. The students competed against 11 different teams from Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson, McKean, and Potter counties. From March 5-7, online viewers were able to place their votes on the website https://www.whatssocool.org/contests/north-central-pa/ .

Students who competed from Clearfield consisted of Joe Knee from 7th grade, and Tyce Canotlina, David Graham, Adam Miller, and Isaac Owens, all from 8th grade.

Mrs. Grice, advisor, stated, “I was so impressed with the video the students created to show ‘What’s So Cool about PA Grain Processing’.  These students went to our local ethanol plant to interview workers and learn what happens at PGP.  They created a video compiling what they observed and learned.  It was so impressive that we won the Educational Award for this video competition.”

It is truly great that local students are getting involved with real life companies to get a taste of what can be expected in a job outside the realms of high school. Not only that, but they were able to put it into perspective for other students to learn from.
