For my story of music and its societal impact, I decided to interview one of the best musicians I’ve ever had the privilege of meeting. He’s not only musically involved, but he’s literally involved too. He’s in it for more than fame or wealth, he wants to share his life story with his involvement. So, in my opinion, there is no one better to interview than my friend Dakota DuFour.

Music is worth, to many people, way more than just sound. It’s about passion, beauty, nature, and life. People take such a deep, meaningful thing for granted. Music is way deeper than surface level, some lyrics go deeper than what the lyrics themselves state. Dakota states,”Perception within music, is just as important as the music itself. The importance of musical perception, in my opinion, is that it creates a sense of value and connection to a message because without a subjective meaning, there is no message in the first place. I also think that if there was only one perception on something, it degrades the concept of a message, or perception.”

Music in society forms the artist, more so than the artist forms society. Often times people consider the fact that society is shifted, or altered by a sound, but in opinion, the very essence of who the musician is created by society, not the other way around. And to improve your life, and musical experience, you should understand the deep connection, and be with it for more than just money and popularity. “I would say my biggest influence, is nature and life itself. My music is a reflection of my experiences, and that’s the story it tells,” says Dakota.

Passion, and deep thought are two of the very most important aspects of this line of work. People don’t usually get famous for not having the connection, or ability to comprehend the very essence of who they are, let alone the ability to compose that essence into their own sound. Those who do, however, or greatly reward for their compatibility, within this philosophy. Musicians are some of the smartest, and most philosophical people you could ever imagine, for their deep and personal connection into society.

The very involvement within music, should be used as an attempt at bettering oneself, and learning more about life. It should not be about greed, but about the beauty and hate within life. Different songs and genres convey different meanings, however what they all have in common, is the ability to give joy to the listeners.

To fully enjoy music, you should always have a deeper than surface connection to it. The importance of musical perception is that it creates a sense of value and connection to a message because without a subjective meaning, there is no message in the first place. Also, if there was only one perception on something, it degrades the concept of a message or perception. Basically meaning that perception allows connectivity to listener and song, creating an entirely different experience for both writer and listener.
