The host: the Clearfield Bison Marching Band

The Clearfield-Centre County Band Show was hosted on October 20, 2018 at the Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School. Glendale, Bellefonte, Curwensville, Bald Eagle, West Branch, Philipsburg-Osceola, Penns Valley, and the Junior and Senior High Marching Bands of Clearfield were all in attendance.

With our school being the host, the pressure was on for this year’s plans to run efficiently. The day started strong with weather not-too-short of shabby, but this was sure to change. As bands began to arrive at the school they were greeted by Clearfield band students and horrendous rain that was not letting up. As students and spectators filed their way into the bleachers, the rain pounded onward. Few bands made it onto the field before the event could no longer be hosted on the turf.

The loud speakers croaked as the announcer spoke the broken words that all audience members and band students had to make their way into the school. Without large incentives it is easy to believe that bands would have left; they did anything but the sort. Directors from each school gathered in Mr. Mandell’s office and made the decision to persist onward and devise a plan to make sure the show didn’t stop.

The gymnasium roared as the announcement was made that the show was going to be moved indoors. The bands were held in the Bison Gymnasium as another showcased their musical talents in the Weiss Gymnasium. The show came to a close with the Clearfield Senior High Marching Band and ended nearly on the same schedule as if it were not interrupted at all.

The 2018 Band Show was a miraculous success despite the many challenges that were faced and was overall an unforgettable experience for all students, staff, and audience members involved.
