Mary Poppins Returns to movie theaters
January 15, 2019
Directed and produced by Rob Marshall, Mary Poppins Returns is a musical fantasy movie that also stars Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, and Meryl Streep.
Mary Poppins Returns was released in theaters on December 19 and is 130 minutes long.
The movie is a continuation of the original movie, Mary Poppins. Decades after her original visit, Mary Poppins comes back to help a now grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael’s three children, Annabel, John, and Georgie, because Michael and Jane’s childhood home is being threatened to be taken away by the bank if they can’t fully repay the loan taken out previously to cover expenses.
Although Michael and Jane no longer believe in the magic they had in their childhood, Mary comes back to reintroduce this magic to them and Michael’s children, all the while helping them figure out how to fix everything, so it can work out for the best in the end.
This movie is a great family movie and is really a wonderful sequel to the previous film that came out 54 years ago. It was very entertaining and implemented a lot of objects and sayings that reminded me of the original Mary Poppins movie. It captured the spirit and magic perfectly and had lots of great new music too.
Overall I believe it is worth the watch and I would recommend to everyone, especially people whose childhood involved the original Mary Poppins.
