Last month, the Dance Company attended Revel dance competition and convention in Pittsburgh, PA. This is a three-day event that consists of challenging workshop classes with professional teachers, the competition itself, and the closing show.

The classes consisted of ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, ballroom and barre. In these classes, the teachers looked for scholarship worthy dancers. Also, during the competition the judges chose Top Revelation Award dancers to perform at the closing show.

One of our contemporary numbers, The Universe, won a Top Revelation Award and performed at the closing show. Additionally, Milano Timko, Zoie Sidorick, and Madison Wanamaker won scholarships from the workshops. Overall, almost every one of our numbers were awarded high platinums.

When Elizabeth Ryan, a teen dancer on the competition team, was asked what her favorite and least favorite parts of the Revel competition were, she said, “My favorite part about Revel was getting to compete and show off one of our dances in the showcase. My least favorite part was taking long, hard classes all day but I enjoyed the experience.”

Elizabeth also looks forward to our next competition. The team strives to improve as the season goes on, working on spacing, facial expressions, and timing. We hope to score even higher in the overalls for our upcoming competitions.
