This school year, a group of seniors who are active members of their service clubs are raising money for a bigger cause. Through the American Heart Association, these seniors are raising money throughout the month of February to promote healthy heart health and the importance of being active. The Queen and King of Hearts Court is made up of 834 seniors who have participated in service clubs for the last couple years:

As far as raising the money goes for the Queen and King of Hearts Court, there are multiple ways that the court is trying to meet their goal of $5,000. Each person on the court must raise a minimum of $250 to contribute to our overall goal. There are multiple ways that the court is raising their money. One of the ways is t-shirt sales. The American Heart Association made red-out shirts for red-out day on Thursday, February 13, 2020. Students were able to purchase these shirts for $10, and then wear them on red-out day. Each member of the court received the $10 directly into their account.

The next way the Queen and King of Hearts Court is raising money is through direct fundraising on their online web pages. The court worked with the American Heart Association to create a web page where friends and family can directly donate a set amount of money. Then, the court shared their web pages onto their social media sites to encourage people to donate.

The last way the Queen and King of Hearts Court is raising money is canning. The court made cans and set them up at local businesses for people to put their money into. Keep an eye out for the court’s cans the next time you are in town!

So, why raise money for the American Heart Association? The American Heart Association has been working with our school for years to raise money. Over the years that we have worked with them, we have raised the most money every single year out of every local school.

Another reason we raise money for the American Heart Association is to raise awareness about heart health in our community. Many people are not educated on heart conditions or various heart diseases that are possible. The Queen and King of Hearts Court wants to show people the importance of heart health.

Why did people choose to participate in the Queen and King of Hearts court? I asked some of the members on the Court this question and recorded their responses, below.

Cruz: “We are raising money for a good cause.”

Lennon: “I have been doing community service my whole high school career and it seemed fitting to give back to a good cause.”

Kimberly: “I want to raise money for a good cause, and I want to be actively involved in the things that my school and community has to offer.”

The common theme here with Queen and King of Hearts is giving back to the community that has supported us throughout high school. Donate to a good cause and help Clearfield raise the most money out of all our local schools! You can donate using this link
