The Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High Soccer girls soccer team is almost near the end of its season. Coach Winters recently talked about their season and his thoughts about the soccer team. Mr. Winters is a History teacher for the seventy and eighth grade. He has been coaching girls Varsity for three years, PA West for 10 years, Track for 26 years, and Cross Country for 24 years.

Coach Winter’s goals for the 2020 season and being a coach include, “To see continuous improvement from game to game, be competitive in the Mountain League and win a district championship, just try to give the girls an opportunity to learn and get better, and for the girls to be the best they can be.”

Coach Winters is glad they get to play. He thinks playing right now is the best thing the girls could be doing during the Pandemic.

They have a young team, but have a good core of talented players. Coach Winters is excited about seeing the girls improve and gain confidence. Confidence is the key, he said.

Soccer has affected Coach Winter’s life as he quoted, “It has created a ton of great friendships and it’s awesome to see the team achieve success. It is a year-around commitment and requires an understanding family.”

Coach Winters hopes the girls he coaches learn to set up goals, understand that putting the work in is important, and that they are lifetime athletes. He also hopes this year’s soccer team learns that doing the best for the team doesn’t always mean be a starter, it means being supportive, and going 100 percent at practice.

He wants students in general to know that anything that is worth doing requires hard work and that success is not guaranteed.
