During this year’s football season we had two school records broken by two of our seniors, Mark McGonigal, 1000 rushing yards in his career, and Karson Kline,  most receiving yards in a single game. I got the chance to interview them both and ask them some questions.

Mark says he found a love for the sport at a young age, he has played since 4th grade, and continues to love it day by day. All athletes have role models and for Mark his is his older brother, Luke, who sets not only an athletic example but a academic example. “You only get a certain amount of time to do the sport, and in 10 years you will look back and wish you did,” says Mark. A good piece of advice for the other athletes out there! Getting the record was a goal of Mark’s; he wanted to have a good name in football since his name in wrestling is quite good, too.

Karson says he plays football because of the love he has for the game; he has played since he was 4 years old. He looks up to Jahan Dotson “but I also look up to myself in 5 years to become that better version of myself.” His piece of advice for athletes is “If you aren’t going to give your all while competing then its not worth your time to be there so always give 100% and fall in love with what your doing.” Karson had a very different answer when I asked him how it felt to break the record: “ It really hasn’t impacted me at all by breaking the school record because I still want the same end goal for my team… that’s my main focus.”
