Once in awhile my family will make these chocolate chip cookies for a holiday, party, or just to have around the house. The recipe was passed down from my mother’s grandma. I made them this time and decided to add mini-M&M’s – they are optional.
Recipe:
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup butter: melted & cooled
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1 Tbsp vanilla
- 1 egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 cups chocolate chips
- 1 cup mini-M&M’s
Directions
- Sift dry ingredients
- Cream butter & sugars until blended
- Beat in vanilla, egg, and egg yolk
- Mix in sifted ingredients
- Stir in chocolate chips and mini-M&M’s
- Line cookie sheet with parchment paper
- Roll dough out into even balls
- Bake for 11-14 minutes
Tips
- Use an ice cream scoop to make even sized balls of dough
- Press extra mini-M&M’s onto the top of the dough before baking to make them stand out
- If you press the dough down before cooking, the cookies will be flatter. If you leave them as balls, the cookies will be thicker
- When you think the cookies are done, press a toothpick down into the center of one. If no dough comes off onto it, they are done.
- To keep the cookies soft, put a piece of bread in the container you are storing them in.
