Once in awhile my family will make these chocolate chip cookies for a holiday, party, or just to have around the house. The recipe was passed down from my mother’s grandma. I made them this time and decided to add mini-M&M’s – they are optional.

Recipe:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup butter: melted & cooled
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 cup mini-M&M’s

Directions

  1. Sift dry ingredients
  2. Cream butter & sugars until blended
  3. Beat in vanilla, egg, and egg yolk
  4. Mix in sifted ingredients
  5. Stir in chocolate chips and mini-M&M’s
  6. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper
  7. Roll dough out into even balls
  8. Bake for 11-14 minutes

Tips

  • Use an ice cream scoop to make even sized balls of dough
  • Press extra mini-M&M’s onto the top of the dough before baking to make them stand out
  • If you press the dough down before cooking, the cookies will be flatter. If you leave them as balls, the cookies will be thicker
  • When you think the cookies are done, press a toothpick down into the center of one. If no dough comes off onto it, they are done.
  • To keep the cookies soft, put a piece of bread in the container you are storing them in.
