This year, the Clearfield boys’ soccer team had the opportunity to compete for the District 9 Title. To get to the final, they battled DuBois—the team they had lost to last year—in the semifinal. This time, the Bison were able to pull through for a 4-0 win.

Thrilled that they were able to overcome this obstacle, the boys moved on to the final against Bradford. The game took place at Frank Varischetti field in Brockway at 7:00 pm on November 1.

According to Luke Sidorick, one of the team’s captains, “Going into the game, we felt very confident. We just came off a great win against DuBois and had high hopes for this game.” The boys’ coach, Nick Walker, goes on to say, “I could tell from warm-ups that they really wanted to play this game.  The intensity was there, and that intensity translated to the game as we set the tone of the game from kick-off.”

Sadly, the boys did fall to the Owls with the final score being 2-0. One of Bradford’s goals was scored in the first forty-five seconds, and the other was converted in the last few minutes of Monday’s match. “I felt like we performed well.” Sidorick comments, “The opportunities were there, we just couldn’t capitalize on them. We played a great game on defense, we just had 2 unlucky ones get by us.”

Of course, the boys were disappointed and disheartened by the loss, yet the team is keeping their sights set on next year. “I’m looking forward to next year,” Coach Walker says, “We are a very young team and have some promising talent coming up from middle school.”
