Two CAJSHS clubs have raised $3000 dollars to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Key Club and Helping Hands were matched with a 9th grade classroom after Hurricane Harvey hit Baytown, Texas. The school is named Goose Creek Memorial High School.

Mrs. Borden, the Key Club adviser, found the “adopt a classroom project” on a blog she follows and texted Mrs. Zimmerman, the Helping Hands adviser. From there they made a pledge sheet, talked to the clubs, and club members started taking donations. Staff and community members donated as well.

Together Mrs. Borden and Mrs. Zimmerman looked at the list of items the teacher from Goose Creek, Caitlin LeVine, provided and selected them on Amazon. Just a few of the things they sent were personal care items, blankets, and water. The adopted students also each got a $20 Target gift card to get whatever else they needed. Many students lost everything and were not protected by insurance, explained Mrs. Borden.

It is so important to help others in need. Mrs. Borden explains, “We want students to leave CAJSHS having leadership skills and knowing the benefits of helping others. This was an awesome chance for us to do something outside of Clearfield, too. Caring is our way of life.”

After getting back in touch with Ms. Levine, she has expressed her thanks and is very appreciative. She will send pictures of her students.
