A sweet treat to make for Valentine’s Day

Riley Ryen, Staff Writer

A great treat to make during February is chocolate covered strawberries, since Valentine’s Day occurs in this month. However, it is something you can make any time of the year if you’re looking for something sweet. This is just a recipe that I made that tastes great every time it’s made.

  • 2 lb. of fresh strawberries
  • 10 oz. bag of milk or dark chocolate chips
  • 10 oz. bag of white chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1 medium pot
  • 1 medium pan

  1. Wash the strawberries and dry them.
  2. Fill the medium pot about halfway with water and heat it up right before it starts to boil.
  3. Once the water is to that point put the medium pan on top of the pot and add about 2 cups of chocolate chips in to start (you may need more depending on size of your strawberries).
  4. Mix frequently until melted.
  5. Once melted, scrape the chocolate into a mug or cup so dipping is easier.
  6. Hold the strawberry by the stem and dip the whole thing in.
  7. Take out the strawberry and lay onto a plate or lined baking sheet.
  8. Repeat step #6 until all the strawberries are coated in chocolate and let the chocolate harden.
  9. Do the same process with melting the chocolate but use the white chocolate chips. Drizzle over the coated strawberries (optional).

  1. Do not melt chocolate too long. Take off the heat when it is almost all melted.
  2. Make sure the strawberries are completely dry after washing them before you dip them into the chocolate.
  3. If you choose to drizzle the white chocolate use a zip lock bag and cut a small hole in the corner.
