Mountain League Champions

This October, the Lady Bison Soccer team secured their third consecutive Mountain League Championship, going undefeated in the Mountain League with a record of 14-0. They played Penns Valley on October 19th, winning 7-0 to clinch the title. Their toughest Mountain League opponent this year was Hollidaysburg, who trailed them in the league at second place. This was a major goal for the team since this year is the last year that the Mountain League will be in place.

The girls’ soccer team has many players on the team who have helped the scoring to get them through the Mountain League. The team’s leading scorer is Elle Smith who has over 150 career goals. The team also has an outstanding regular season record of 16-2. Although the team had lost just two games in the regular season, they did not lose a single game in the Mountain League.

The girls on the team describe winning the Mountain League three consecutive years as “the best feeling.” For many girls on the team, that was their third title as well since they have been playing on the varsity team for many years. Senior captain Elle Smith says, “I am extremely proud of our team for winning the Mountain league three years in a row especially since it has never been done before. We were really hoping to get the title again this year since this is the last year of the Mountain League. The team has been working really hard and we are hoping to move forward into districts and go far into the state playoffs.”

The girls’ soccer team does not plan on slowing down now. They plan to move through districts and go through the state tournament coming up. They were matched up against St. Mary’s for the Class AA District 9 finals that occurred on October 31st. They won the District 9 title 10-0. The Lady Bison Soccer team has been very successful through this season, and they hope that this continues.
