For the month of October, we honor the frightening and macabre with costumes, decorations, pumpkin carving, but most importantly, horror movies. Those who love interpretative, artistic depictions of fear can indulge in these films and appreciate their unique ability to convey important themes and discussion of the duality between human fear and violence. Following are several students’ answers to the difficult question, “What’s your favorite scary movie?
“My favorite horror movie is The Terrifier. It’s a very low-budget gory movie with a very confusing plot. I love this movie for the killer, Art the Clown, and it’s so simple but so unique.”
“My favorite horror movie is obviously Incantation because it is perfect, and the acting is so good. The plot is my favorite.”
“My favorite horror movie is Evil Dead Rise.”
“My favorite horror movie is, by far, Nightmare on Elm Street. I like it because it makes you feel like you’re in the movie.”
“My favorite horror movie is Insidious.”
“My favorite horror movie is The Shining because it is one of the oldest good horror movies that has so many hidden meanings behind the scenes, so it is super fun to decipher. I love “redrum!!” I also like the new movie, Winnie the Pooh, Blood and Honey because the concept of it is hilarious, but it is extremely gory.”
